Monck's Regiment Born: Birth of the Coldstream Guards
Colonel George Monck raised a regiment of foot soldiers during the English Civil War that would survive every political upheaval of the next four centuries. The unit evolved into the Coldstream Guards, becoming the oldest continuously serving regiment in the British Army and a fixture of ceremonial life at Buckingham Palace.
